How To Reach Uttarkashi from Delhi

If you go via Dehradun via bus. This will be the route that would be followed to Uttarkashi

Route that will be followed if you go via Rishikesh.

How To Reach Uttarakashi from Delhi ?

If you are driving on your own, do not worry the route is simple. Just follow the navigation and you should be good to go. If you are going to use public transport here are few options to reach Uttarkashi.

  • Take a direct overnight UTC from ISBT Kashmiri gate to Uttarakashi
  • Reach Dehradun. Take UTC bus or a Shared cab from Dehradun
  • Get to Rishikesh. Public transport widely available.

So the first option is pretty hassle free without having to break your journey but it very time consuming. The direct UTC bus to Uttarkashi is at 9.30 PM. You’ll probably reach Uttarakashi around noon.

The second option is the best if you ask me if you reach Delhi during the day. Quickly hop on a bus to Dehradun from ISBT kashmiri gate. And take overnight shared press cab from Dehradun.

Mind you that overnight buses or shared cabs don’t run to Uttarakashi except for this shared press cab. It is probably the quickest way to reach Uttarkashi without wasting much time.

UTC bus from Dehradun to Uttarkashi departs at 5.30 AM. Shared cabs are also available but just confirm about the location once with the locals.

The third option is to reach Rishikesh or Haridwar. Plenty of buses and shared cabs available starting as early as 4.00 AM in the morning. Delhi to Uttarkashi distance is 436 KM.

How To Reach Uttarkashi from Dehradun ?

Buses & shared cabs are easily available for Uttarkashi from Dehradun. So it should not be a problem.

There is early morning Dehradun to Uttarkashi UTC bus via Mussorie which departs from Dehradun Hill bus stand at 5.30 AM. Check out the UTC website or the mobile app for online booking.

Shared cabs also run from Dehradun along with private buses starting morning. Just confirm the location of the both once with the locals.

I personally took a shared press cab. Press cab basically delivers newspapers to Garwhali towns early in the morning also ferrying passengers to earn a quick buck. They are the only available overnight travel option.

They start from Patel Nagar in Dehradun around midnight. Just give a call to book your seat (+91 9719121250). I paid INR 400 for the ride. Dehradun to Uttarkashi distance is around 140 km.

How To Reach Uttarkashi from Rishikesh ?

Public transport and shared cabs are available from Rishikesh. So be rest assured about it.

Buses and shared cabs start quite early in the morning. But just confirm the timings once at the Bus stand and with the locals.

During Char- Dham Yatra season, there are a lot of direct buses to Gangotri which will obviously go via Uttarkashi. So look out of them.

I did not find any direct UTC bus to Uttarkashi from Rishikesh online. But you can surely board the one coming from Delhi in case you prefer only UTC bus.

The shared press cab I mentioned about earlier also stops at the bus stand if its not full from Dehradun. So look out for it in case you want to travel overnight. Rishikesh to Uttarkashi distance is 170 km.

How To Reach Uttarkashi from Haridwar ?

Uttarkashi has a fairly easy access via Haridwar as well. Buses and shared cabs are available to Uttarkashi.

Since I personally did not travel via Haridwar I don’t know the exact timings but you can confirm about the timings at the bus stand and with the locals once.

Buses and cabs start early morning so make sure you catch earliest one to reach Uttarkashi on time.

The total distance from Haridwar to Uttarkashi is around 194 km.

Uttarkashi to Delhi bus

Since there is a direct Delhi to Uttarkashi UTC bus, there has to be a reverse service as well. But the thing is that it cannot be booked online.

So I would suggest you to ask at the bus stand to confirm the timings and plan accordingly. I personally, never went to Delhi directly from Uttarkashi so cannot confirm the exact timings.

Dehradun To Uttarkashi Train ?

Sorry to disappoint you but there is no Dehradun to Uttarkashi train. In fact the only way to reach Uttarkashi is by road. Either by your own vehicle, buses or shared cabs.

Is There A Train To Gangotri ?

No there is no train to Gangotri. Uttarkashi is gateway to Gangotri Dham and can be accessed only via road. Public transport is widely available during Char Dham Yatra season.
