How to Reach Kinnaur from Mumbai – Option 1 

First things first, there is no direct rail, flight or public transport connectivity to Kinnaur from Mumbai.

In order to reach Kinnaur from Mumbai, first you’ll need to reach Delhi/Chandigarh. For the option 1, I’m considering Delhi.

Getting to Delhi from Mumbai

  • Financial capital and national capital is well connected with trains and flights as you would expect.
  • Check out Skyscanner for booking flights
  • Frequent flights ply between Mumbai and Delhi. Almost every hour.
  • Frequency of train is good as well. Log into IRTC website or app to book and get the train schedule.
  • The Rajdhani’s run daily 12951, 12953, 22221 at the 17.00, 17.10, 16.00 respectively
  • Paschim express and golden temple run daily at 11.25 and 18.45
  • The 3 tier ac fare for Rajdhani will be approximate INR 3000 (Flexifare applies to Rajdhani). For non-Rajdhani trains it will 1700.
  • Opt for flights trains in such a way that you reach Delhi by evening if opting for public transport for Kinnaur.

Getting to Kinnaur from Delhi

From Delhi if you are going to hire a self-driving car, then it is straightforward route. You can use navigation apps like google maps and with one pit-stop at Shimla/Narkanda/Rampur, you should make it to Kinnaur.

The below points are more for those wanting travel to Kinnaur on a budget and using public. This brief summary should be very helpful.

Another thing to note that Kinnaur is a district. So here I’m considering that you’re heading Recong Peo, the district headquarters or Sangla/Chitkul because that’s where most tourists head.

  • From Delhi you can opt for direct Ordinary HRTC buses to Kinnaur.
  • Here is the HRTC website to book your tickets online.
  • Recong Peo bound bus is at 20.50 from Delhi Kashmere gate ISBT.
  • Delhi to Recong Peo fare is INR 1057.
  • Sangla bound bus is at 21.58 from Delhi Kashmere gate ISBT
  • Delhi to Sangla fare is INR 1048.
  • Else you can reach Shimla first and then opt for Kinnaur bound buses which start as early as 4 Am.
  • Plenty of ordinary and luxury buses ply between Delhi and Shimla.
  • In case you are in Peo bounded bus but want to get to Sangla, remember to get down at Karcham.
  • Although most people going to Kinnaur either head to Sangla/Chitkul or Reckong peo, but if you are going to lower Kinnaur, Bhabha valley or villages like Chagaon, Urni, Yula, get down at appropriate places like Nichar, Wangtu, Tapri etc.

How to Reach Kinnaur from Mumbai – Option 2

First things first, there is no direct rail, flight or public transport connectivity to Kinnaur from Mumbai.

In order to reach Kinnaur from Mumbai, first you’ll need to reach Delhi/Chandigarh. For the option 2, I’m considering Chandigarh.

Another thing to note that Kinnaur is a district. So here I’m considering that you’re heading Recong Peo, the district headquarters or Sangla/Chitkul because that’s where most tourists head.

Getting to Chandigarh from Mumbai

  • There are direct flights to Chandigarh from Mumbai. But not as frequent when compared to Delhi.

  • Same is the case with rail as well. Only Paschim express is the daily train to Chandigarh from Mumbai at 11.25
  • Train 12449 runs on Tuesday and Wednesday while train 12217 runs on Tuesdays and Saturday
  • Train 22451 runs on Monday and Thursday.
  • Frequency of train is good as well. Log into IRTC website or app to book and get the train schedule.
  • The 3 tier ac fare to Chandigarh from Mumbai is around INR 1805, while sleeper class fare is around

Getting to Kinnaur from Chandigarh

From Chandigarh if you are opting for public transport, there 5-6 buses going to Kinnaur including early mornings and in the evening.

Based on your time of reaching Chandigarh, you can opt for the bus as per your convenience and comfort. If you are self-driving, the route will be as follow.

Another thing to note that Kinnaur is a district. So here I’m considering that you’re heading Recong Peo, the district headquarters or Sangla/Chitkul because that’s where most tourists head.

  • From Chandigarh, there are a total of 4 Recong Peo bound buses.
  • Here is the HRTC website to book your tickets online.
  • Two semi-luxury buses depart from Chandigarh at 6.05 and 17.50 respectively.
  • Chandigarh to Recong Peo Semi-Luxury buses are priced at INR 960.
  • Two ordinary buses at 4.44 and 19.00 respectively.
  • Chandigarh to Recong Peo Ordinary buses are price at INR
  • There are no direct Sangla bound buses from Chandigarh.
  • But you can opt for the one coming from Delhi.
  • If you are on Recong Peo bound bus but want go to Sangla, then get down at Karcham.
  • Although most people going to Kinnaur either head to Sangla/Chitkul or Reckong peo, but if you are going to lower Kinnaur, Bhabha valley or villages like Chagaon, Urni, Yula, get down at appropriate places like Nichar, Wangtu, Tapri etc.
