How To Reach Pin Valley – All The Relevant Details You Need

First things first, there is no direct rail or Air connectivity to Pin valley. Road is the only way you can reach Pin valley.

Pin valley is located in Kaza division of Lahaul & Spiti district. It can be approached in two ways. First from Manali via Manali-Kaza road and second via Shimla-Kaza road.

The route to Pin valley via Manali is the open only for 4-5 months from June to October. While route to Pin valley via Kaza is open almost throughout the year. The link road to Pin valley from Attargo bridge itself might not be accessible for a couple of months during peak winters due to heavy snow.

How To Reach Pin Valley From Manali ?

The quickest way to reach Pin valley is from Manali via Manali-Kaza road. With Atal Tunnel now operational you can easily make it to even Pin valley in a matter of 10 hours.

How To Reach Pin Valley From Manali

The shortest route to Pin valley is via Manali. but is only open from June to October. The route is as follows. Manali – Atal Tunnel – Gramphu – Chatru – Chota Dhara – Batal – Kunzum La – Losar – Kaza – Attargo Bridge – Mudh

Getting to Manali from Atal Tunnel

A fairly straight forward drive from Manali with decent metaled roads via Solang. This stretch should be fairly easy and without any hassles. The distance between Manali and Atal Tunnel is around 30 km.

Reaching Gramphu From Atal Tunnel

Once you reach the north portal of Atal Tunnel you need to drive towards Khoksar. After Khoksar some few km towards Rohtang La you’ll spot a diversion to Spiti valley at Gramphu. Continue on that diversion.

The distance between Gramphu and Atal Tunnel is around 18 km

Getting to Losar from Gramphu

The entire stretch from Gramphu to Losar via Chatru, Batal, Kunzum La is a dirt track. The road conditions are extremely poor. During monsoons one needs to be very careful while driving on this road.

The distance between Losar and Gramphu is around 78 km.

Reaching Kaza from Losar 

A fairly uneventful drive with insanely scenic vistas of Spiti. The road will now be metalled up until Kaza and Attargo bridge. The distance of this stretch is around 60 km.

Finally making it to Pin valley via Attargo bridge

Continue towards Tabo from Kaza and you’ll spot a diversion to Pin valley at Attargo bridge. Take that diversion and head to wherever you had decided like Mudh or any other place.

The distance from Kaza to Mudh via Attargo Bridge is around 50 km. Road conditions are average.

How To Reach Pin Valley From Shimla ?

The road to Pin valley from Shimla is open almost throughout the year. But the link road to pin valley from Attargo bridge might be closed during peak winters months of January and February.

How To Reach Pin Valley From Shimla

The longer route to Pin valley via Shimla is quite a journey. Here is the route you need to follow. Shimla – Rampur Bushahr – Reckong Peo – Pooh – Nako – Tabo – Attargo – Mudh.

Reaching Rampur Bushahr from Shimla

A fairly simple drive with decent road conditions. Marvel at the scenic views of Upper Shimla on this stretch. The distance from Shimla to Rampur Bushahr is around 126 km.

Getting to Reckong Peo From Rampur Bushahr 

Peo is the administrative capital of Kinnaur and Also, the last place where you’ll find petrol before Kaza.

The distance between Peo and Bushahr is around 100 km.

Getting to Nako from Peo

This stretch has a mix of average roads but incredibly scenic vistas of Upper Kinnaur. The distance between Peo and Nako is around 101 km

Finally making it to Pin valley from Nako

Enjoy the barren landscapes of Spiti and reach Attargo bridge via Nako and Schiling and Lingti. As soon as you cross Attargo bridge you enter Pin valley.

Mudh village in Pin valley is where most of the tourists go and is around 128 km from Nako.
